Alright!

April 21, 2009 at 11:36 pm (Uncategorized) (, , )

I’m really trying to keep this thing pretty regularly updated, but I’m finding it pretty difficult. This close to graduation (18 days!), I have quite a few little projects and papers to wrap up, so it’s busy around here.

My theatre career at UWG is officially over, however. It’s kind of a bittersweet feeling, really. I had a lot of fun and learned quite a lot, but it’s definitely time for me to move on to bigger and better things. Like getting certified to teach high school and starting my own theatre company and being a starving artist without insurance! Exciting times indeed!

I’m definitely catching the “summer” bug, though. I want to do nothing but play frisbee and listen to a lot of Weezer. I’ve already started listening to the Weezer radio stations on both Pandora and Last.Fm. They’ve both provided me with some really awesome music and reminded me of some good bands that I totally forgot about (Jet, Sublime, The Strokes…).

I headed to Actor’s Express today to see my friend Matt in a play. He’s interning there with a handful of other actors, and this play was written specifically for them by a playwright the company knows. It was pretty funny and entertaining, and there was some good, solid, acting in it. I’m not going to get all analytical about it tonight, because I am way to chill to even think like that right now (the reception had free beer and beer makes me tired). However, it’s always enjoyable seeing friends out bettering themselves in their craft.

I will leave you with the Snapple fact I aqcuired today:

Mosquito’s have 47 teeth.

Down in the green hay…

April 7, 2009 at 5:43 pm (Uncategorized) (, , , , , )

There are 32 days until graduation. This boggles my mind. This year has gone by really fast. I’m excited, though. There are a lot of people I am going to miss, but the important ones I’ll see again. It’s time for me to get out of Carrollton.

I’m also in a place in my life where I’m really starting to have to reevaluate friendships. This year has been a year of surprises as far as that goes. Turns out I had quite a few friends that thought pretty poorly of me and also did things that friends should honestly never do (Look at me being vague! Let’s just say I told a teacher and her response was “I think some surgery to cut off all the right parts is in order.”) Yeah. Homie don’t play that.

I’m back in a Joanna Newsom phase. I realized the other night I hadn’t really listened to her in awhile, and I was a little upset with myself. Amazing stuff, really. Especially Colleen. Consider this my next song recommendation of the week.

Yesterday, I experienced my first “wizrock” concert. I’m not a HUGE Harry Potter fan (though I do enjoy it), so I had never really paid attention to this new music genre aside from my room mate playing it a lot. I must say though, it was an amazing time. They even broke out in Poison and Guns ‘n’ Roses which really made my night. I have a thing 80’s rock. At any rate, the guys that played were actually really nice and really cool. And we had a dance party, which was the best part of the night.

Closing note: Batman Battle for the Cowl #2 comes out tomorrow. I am definitely running to the comic store to pick that up. <3

Sleepwalking

April 1, 2009 at 1:34 am (Uncategorized)

So I had been using Google Chrome for awhile, until today it decided to let me log into the site I needed to complete some homework. I know it was a browser issue, because I reinstalled Firefox and everything worked fine… and ironically, Firefox was faster. So, welcome back old chum. We’ll take it slow and see where it goes.

I went to the school health center today for allergies and hit the jackpot. I got three things of pills, throat drops, cough syrup, and a new asthma inhaler. All for free. …And all I really wanted was the new inhaler. Though apparently some of the allergy pills help me sleep, so that’s a plus. I need a good full night of sleep…. Especially since both  of my classes are cancelled tomorrow.

Alright. And now to make this post interesting, my good friend sent me this song today and I LOVE it. This is my song recommendation for the week:

Okay, first off. You can add Twitter to your sidebar here. That is awesome as I have found myself strangely addicted to twitter. I like it more than Facebook right now anyway. Which is elaborated confusing Twitter at the moment. It doesn’t look professional at all.

So today was “Adventure Thursday,” which is a new term coined by my roomie Hope and I. What we plan to do every Thursday evening, is go out and explore Carrollton through walking. Today we discovered that our town actually has some very pretty spots, perfect for walking and picnicking. Plus, the weather was really nice since it stopped raining and it felt good just to get out of the apartment for awhile.

COMIC BOOK TIME.
This will probably happen every Thursday… so if you are uninterested, that’s it for the normal blogging today. You have been warned.

Comics came out this week! My list included Battle for the Cowl: Jim Gordon, Oracle #1, and Superman #686. I haven’t read Superman yet, but the other two were alright.

Jim Gordon read like a short cop movie. He even had a “We’re going to take back this city” line. However, it was really cool to see him be all badass and REALLY take control now that Batman is gone. It makes you realize how much Gotham apparently relied on Batman. Plus, the fight between him and Mr. Freeze was pretty epic.

I enjoyed Oracle, but, I won’t like, I’m a bit bias. I’m glad she’s been getting more attention lately, and it’s really interesting to see where her character is going… even if it’s her sliding down hill and becoming even more of a recluse. But it also seems like they aren’t just going to let her slide downhill and leave her there, so I have no problem going along for the ride.

Backstreet’s Back, ALRIGHT!

March 25, 2009 at 12:48 am (Uncategorized)

Dun na na na na naaah. Dun nah na naaah. Man, I love that song. Anyway, that’s right. I decided to start using wordpress again! I’ll probably cross-post most of these entries to Livejournal, but EVERYONE can see this and comment… so that’s a plus.

I just spent the last half of last week at USITT conference (United States Institute of Theatre Technology). It was pretty fun, and I’m absolutely IN LOVE with Cincinnati. I would really like to visit again. Anyway, besides loving the city, the conference was pretty cool. I got to see a lot of new technology, especially dealing with lighting design! The workshops were alright, too… but I really wish there could’ve been more and some more informative ones. I did learn a lot about color choices in lighting design and communicating with theatre designers though, so yay.

Speaking of theatre, Episodes in Sexuality (the show I recently directed, for those of you in the dark) went really well. I’m very satisfied with the end product and with a lot of the feedback I’m getting (both negative and positive). I’m excited I don’t have rehearsal and have a bit more free time now, but I do actually miss the show… and it’s been awhile since I felt that way. Yay again!

Alright then.

Until next time!

Oh yeah, blogging.

September 9, 2008 at 9:36 am (Uncategorized) (, , , )

I almost forgot I had this. Isn’t that horrible? I switched from Firefox to Google Chrome (<3), so I lost all my little favorite buttons at the top… hence me not going “Oh! I should blog today!”

Anyway, school is going well I suppose. I’m fighting a mad case of senioritis with all of my might. It’s defintiely worse now than it was in high school. I’ll make it through though. I’ve really had senioritis all three years I’ve been here… now I just have actual reason to call it that.

My camera broke yesterday. I don’t even know how. I just picked it up, turned it on, and my screen was busted. I really loved that camera, so I’m pretty upset about it’s demise. Fortuntely, I get paid this week, so I guess I’ll shop around for a new one. Not exactly what I wanted to spend my money on right now, but I really hate to not have a camera around.

Yesterday I tried to make no-bake cheesecake. I haven’t tasted it yet because it’s been chillin’ like a villian in my fridge… but it’s not so much a pie anymore. The crust kind of exploded into my no bake mix. We’ll see how that goes. I’m pretty sure I royally messed this up. I should probably just stick to normal baking.

Also, let me nerd out for a moment… Titans is officially my favorite comic series of the moment. I find myself more excited about reading that than I do Batman RIP (which is getting effed up). Nightwing is a close second, with Robin coming up third (especially since JASON TODD was in it last week!). Anyway, the writing is really nice (duh, it’s Judd Winick) and it reminds me of how I remember Justice League as a kid. It just has that little bit of wit and cheesiness to it, but it’s still really freaking amazing. Plus, the Titans line up is always win.

However, a big hearty “LOL” goes out to last weeks Teen Titans. I know it’s horrible, but the fact that Wonderdog killed Wendy and Marvin just made me chuckle. Mainly because I watched Superfriends regulary and I HATE Wonderdog and Marvin. Wendy’s okay… but I still don’t like her. It was definitely a “HAHA! WHAT!?” moment.

Breaking News: People are still really nice.

August 26, 2008 at 12:05 pm (Uncategorized)

One of the nicest things happened to me as I was walking to work this morning.

I was about half way to the building when the sky opened up and I didn’t have an umbrella. Next thing I know, this kid walks up beside me and put his umbrella over my head. I have never seen this kid before in my life before this day and here he was walking me to work so I wouldn’t get soaked.

Really, it was one of the nicest things I’ve seen happen in a long while and it pretty much made my day.

First Week Conquered.

August 22, 2008 at 6:42 pm (Uncategorized)

So, the first week of classes are over and I was right… it’s going to be tough, but it’s going to be good. My poetry class was a little overwhelming. I honestly felt a bit out of place with all the actually poetry students considering my severe lack of poet knowledege, but I’ll make it.

I’m still working with Tommy and trying to clean out the props closet as well. It looks a little better, but it’s honestly still a horrible crowded little room. Yesterday I found a box full of spiderwebs and severed limbs, so at least it hasn’t stopped being interesting.

Oh! And the sushi place isn’t horrible either. Obviously it’s not first class, but it was definitely a pleasant surprise.

Other than that, it’s been amazing seeing old friends (even the ones that have already graduated) and meeting a couple of new ones. Oh. And eating at the Border. I missed the Border.

There are no ridiculous pictures in this post. It has actual writing.

August 15, 2008 at 12:08 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m actually going to write stuff today!

I’m all moved in and ready to start college. My place is really neat, actually. I’m just excited to have a stove so my meal possibilities can expand beyond that of Lean Cuisines and Hot Pockets. I may even make Macaroni and Cheese later. Because I’m fancy. I even bought a pack of cinnamon rolls to bake. Good times.

I haven’t started classes yet (because I have NO Friday classes. Win), but I’m kind of looking forward to it. I think it will be a good year. A hard one, but definitely a good one.

It was also really good to see everyone I haven’t seen in ages. I did not realize how much I actually missed them until I saw them again. Plus, summer got a little boring after awhile (save for bowling almost every week), so I’m looking forward to actually just hanging out with everyone. I enjoyed hanging out with everyone back home, but there’s only so many times we can go sit at Starbucks. Haha.

Also, tonight is Mexican food + Margaritas + Giant outside showing of Iron Man. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

Oh. Also… to quote Kevin.

“And oh my God they opened up a sushi joint in the UCC building.”
